The last Ride of the Twins of Khorne

As the twins rode out onto the final battlefield, the brothers looked at each other. One raised his head to the skies. Khorne, I know I failed in gathering the orbs as you requested, but I tried.

A flame of red light sprang from the chaos waste above and the brother fell to the ground gasping. His twin felt the pain as well and ran to his brothers aid but had to turn his eyes when his brothers sword shattered into a thousand pieces.

Laying upon the ground his brother looked up. We are lost. Khorne has forsaken and abandoned us. The twin helped his brother up. No. But if this be the end then let us make it such an end as to be worthy in song. Look, the Ogres are gathering. We need to meet them, are you up for the challenge my brother.

He looked weak and beaten. He pulled out his old backup sword that had not been used in years. Aye, my brother I am. But you must lead our troops today. And let us show Khorne what he has discarded and cry in remorse.

******************************

The last league game, I fought Billy and his Ogre Kingdoms. Billy is a really great guy and I loved his army.

From left to right he had Yhettes, leadbelchers and gnoblars, bulls, bucher, 5 bulls with tyrant, hunter with 2 sabers, 6 bulls, 3 bulls with butcher, 20 gnoblars and a slave giant. In the woods on the right he also had some trappers.

My army was the same as always. Left to right marauders, knights behind, centigors, Dogs of war fast cav with knights and hero w/rending blade behind, marauders, marauders, knights w/fallen hero behind. Lost his sword of might and suffered -1 to all his stats. Centigors, Dogs of war fast cav on the bridge, marauders and knights on the far edge across the river.

He won the right to go first but opted to let me go.

Turn 1 was pretty uneventful as I rushed forward.
He then rushed forward as well. He cast panic on one marauder unit and I let it go through to clear a lane for my knights to charge.

Centigors on the right had moved into the woods. The trappers were going to charge but failed their animosity check and squabbled instead.

Turn 2 turned out to be well, incredible. Lets start with on the right the centigors and dogs of war cav both failing their terror check and fleeing. But on the left the marauders made a leadership 5 terror test and the Dogs of war made a terror test.

With the giant now unimpeded I charged my hero and knights into the giant. I charged my Dogs of war into his general's unit, bravely. Centigors on the left into the gnoblars on the hill. And my general with rending blade into his unit of 3 bulls.

I moved marauders in front of his unit of 6 bulls. And one in front of but angled to his yhettes. I moved the marauders on the far right and knights through the ford in the river and in front of his gnoblars.

I do the centigor combat first. I only manage to kill 4 gnoblars with 6 str 5 and 6 str 4 attacks hitting on 3's. He does none back but wins by 1. I of course break and run which panics the marauders by the yhettes and they are destroyed. The centigors get away.

I do his general's combat next and he kills my dogs of war to a man. I fight his slave giant next. And after my scorned hero whiffs as well as my horses, the knights come through with 2 wounds. He swings his chain and with 6 hits, and 6 wounds, I manage 3 armor saves and my scorned hero makes his ward save. So we win by 1 and the giant holds.

Finally, my general's unit and with the rending sword it was a forgone conclusion. We obliterate the Ogre bulls. But everyone around makes the panic check. The butcher, the gnoblars. But then his Tyrant and 5 bulls fail!! They turn and run right down their battle line forcing panic checks in every unit. They all make it except the 3 bulls behind the giant. The Tyrant and unit and now fleeing 3 bulls all run into my marauders on the far end and are cut down.
This panics the gnoblars on the right and the trappers who flee and never rally.

My knights overrun into his Butcher on the left.

Billy is shaking his head. Wow, what a turn of events. So his turn 2, he charges his yhettes into my knights on the left, wipes them out on the overrun and suffers only a single wound having killed 3 knights on the charge.
His 6 Bulls charge my marauders who flee. His gnoblars charge the fleeing centigors bu they are out of range. His Hunter and sabers charge into the combat with my hero with rending sword.
His flankers come on and move up behind my knights by the river.
He blasts away, but fails to do a single wound!!

In other combats, the hero and knights put another 2 wounds on the giant. He does pick up and grabs my scorned hero and stuffs him into a bag, then grabs a knight and stuffs him into a bag as well. The combat ends up a draw since my hero only has 1 wound because of the curse.

My general makes quick work of his hunter and when the smoke has cleared I don't lose a single knight. His butcher had done 3 wounds and I saved all 3. The butcher and last saber broke and were both run down.

My turn 3 I failed to rally either centigors. The one on the left was still on the board. The one on the right when and had drinks with the trappers. All the marauders rallied.

My knights with hero turn around ready for the leadbelchers to shoot them.
The knights on the right turn around to face the leadbelchers on the other side of the river across the ford.

The knight fighting the giant only manages a single wound. And when the chain whirled again the unit was destroyed.

His turn 3. Leadbelchers on the right charge into the knights. The 2nd leadbelchers on the left, moved up to shoot my heroes unit. Does 2 misfires, kills one of itself, and only manages 1 wound on my knights. Panic and flee actually past my knights.

Yhettes and gnoblars close in on centigors. Giant and bulls with butcher move into the middle.
In combat, the leadbelchers fail to do a single wound and the knights hack them down. Break them and then run them down.

My turn 4. The centigors rally and pivot to face the Yhettes.
I move my knights up behind his bulls and butcher. I surround the giant with marauders and dogs of war bowmen. Only needing 1 wound to finish him off, he drops like yesterday's news.

His turn 4: He charges the bulls at some marauders who flee, leaving his rear facing my knights.
His yhettes and gnoblars charge my centigors. The centigors hold and make their fear test. And the gnoblars are 1/2" short. Still the yhettes come in and kill off 3.
Then the centigors do 3 wounds killing off a yhette after getting 5 hits out of 6 attacks. The Yhette's lose to my musician and flee off the board.

He did cast regeneration on his big bull unit. I let it go to give his butcher a 2nd wound.

My turn 5. I charge my knights into his bulls. I turn my centigors around and throw at the gnoblars but fail to kill any. I move my marauders around ready for a turn 6 slaughter.

I go to dispel the regeneration and fail to do it. Ugghh!!
His champ is in the rear rank and challenges. I accept and only hit twice, wound 1 time but it does 3 wounds and kills him. Then we remember the regeneration and he rolls it and makes it. He then whiffs his attacks on my hero.

My other 4 knights then promptly do 6 more wounds to him. He promptly regenerates 5 of the 6!!! Wow!! Luckily all my axe throwing had him down 2 wounds already and a bull drops. The last bull with its 4 attacks does nothing.

So with 1 wound, rear and banner beats his size and banner. He breaks and is run down.

Finally his turn 5, he charges his gnoblars into my centigors who stand and shoot. Getting 2 hits, I kill 2 breaking a rank. He does no wounds and I do 3 back. I win by 2 and the gnoblars are broken and run down.

That left no models on the board for Billy's Ogres at all. Here is his dead pile with what he thought of the battle.

Actually, Billy was a fantastic sport and we laughed through the entire game. Playing it out to the last model is tough to do. Billy picked up one of my favorite opponent votes for the league.

*********************************
The hero of khorne turned around. His 4 legs allowing him to sprint across the field quickly. Where is my brother he screamed. The marauders claimed he had been last seen being grabbed by the giant.

He called over several of his fellow centaurs and together they rollled the monstrosity of a beast over. There in his bag, he saw movement. He cut him out and the 2 centaurs staggered out.

How did the battle turn out my brother?

It was a glorious day as not a single Ogre or gnoblar made it off the field of battle alive. And not one skull will be offered up to Khorne. May he rot in his chaos waste.

Then without khorne, what do we do?

I'm not sure, lets check out and see if Nurgle is looking for some heroes.

Sounds good to me.

And with the other centaurs in tow, they rode into the sunset.

*************************
With the upcoming change in the chaos mortals list, it will make this list practically unplayable. Khorne knights are losing frenzy for hatred and no longer producing a dispel dice. This would leave my army extremely vulnerable to magic and panic.

So I will have to revamp it completely and decide what to do with it when the new book comes out at the end of the year.

I hope you enjoyed the battle report.

Until next time...

Cool battle, nothing like a handy panic check to rip through an army like that...wow. It's horrible to be on the receiving end of, but it happens, and fairly rarely.

Good luck on whatever you decide for armies to move forward with.
