BR: Dwarfs vs Chaos Beasts part 2

Sorry for the delay, but here we go now. Refer back to part 1 for army lists and deployment.

Turn 1a:
I had the choice of first turns and took it. I moved everything up. The Furies fly into the rocks next to the woods for some added protection. Magic was pretty useless. He did let me cast Dark hand at his thunderers. I did 1 hit and failed to wound.

Here was the battlefield going into turn 1b:

He moved his units up a bit, but not much.
For shooting his stength 7 bolt thrower on the hill went after a chariot. With the engineer it needed a 4 to hit, but rolled a 3.
His 2nd bolt thrower went after the Rat Ogres on my far right flank. I hand given him a flank shot to hopefully save a chariot. As it turned out it was only strength 6. He went for the flank shot, hit, but failed to wound.
His Organ gun shoots at the unit of 3 rat ogres on my far left flank (closest to the table edge) but fails to kill 1 only doing 2 wounds.
Finally his thunderers fire into the Giant Rats (chaos hounds) in front of Ratspawn and wipe them out completely. Luckily everyone made their panic checks.

Here is the setup at the beginning of turn 2:

Turn 2a: Let the carnage begin!!
The furies charge into the bolt thrower.
And the spawn on my far left picks up its skirt and rumbles forward a full 17" to hit his generals unit with iron breakers.
Of course this then blew his objective of delaying combat till turn 4. So he was already down 100 vp.
For the rest of movement, everything else moved up. Chariots moved to hide behind the house.
1 hound moved up and angled to try and get the dwarfs to offer us some flanks. The other added ranks going 2 wide. But I needed the spawn to hold off the Dwarf Lord and Iron breakers for 1 round of combat.

The spawn pulls it off, doing no wounds but only taking 2 from the Dwarf general.
The furies kill 1 bolt crew and lose 1 fury. Win by 1 (Unit strength 4 to 3) so auto-break from fear, and run down.
Here is the position going into 2a:

Turn 2b: Time for some payback!
The dwarf clansmen didn't take the bait and held their ground.
In shooting, the Bolt thrower nails Ratspawns unit pierces a rat ogre and wounds another in the 2nd rank. Then the thunderers finish killing the wounded beast. So with 2 gone from his unit, Ratspawn is forced into another panic check, but makes it this time.

But the Dwarf player was extremely worried about the furies in his backfield. His Organ gun turns to fire and gets only 2 hits. And then only wounds 1 of the rat daemons. They turn their eyes upon the organ gun. Their eyes filled with hatred now.

The only combat is the dwarf lord killing off the spawn and leading us to this position as I begin my turn 3.

Turn 3a: CHARGE!!
The Skaven Furies charge the Organ gun on the hill. I charged my herd in the woods into the thunderers, Ratspawn and company into the Longbeards with BSB. Chaos hounds that were 2 wide into the flank of the long beards. Then finally a chariot into the thunderers as well.

The organ gun and thunderers stay, but the Long beards decide they want no part of this and flee the charge.
Then my spawn moves 16" and just misses the Long beards by a fraction of an inch on the side. If the Long beards (who fled 10") had fled 1" less, they would be dead.

As a result, Ratspawn and hounds fail their charge and ratspawn now blocks the chariot, so it fails its charge as well, leaving the beastherd to fight the thunderers on their own. They were a bit lucky as exactly 5 models were in charge range, so I was able to go 5 wide and form up a rank as well.

the thunderers stood and shot at the chariot doing 2 wounds to it.

For movement the only thing of note was the herd moving into the house, and the Rat Ogres on the far right moving to set up a dual charge on the clansman over there.

In combat, the furies kill 1 organ crew man. He does 1 wound back but I make my ward save and we win by 1, fear causer outnumber, auto-break, and the furies pursue into the bolt thrower crew.
The beasties kill 1 thunderer and lose 1 back. Win combat by 3 with rank numbers and standard, but needing a 6, he stays.
Leading us to the beginning of turn 3b with this setup:

Turn 3b: Hold the Line!!
With the Longbeards fleeing, he had to rally, and they did. This was huge. The loss of his warmachines was bad enough. He moved the Iron breakers up to protect their flank. and turned the clansmen on my right flank away from the Rat Ogres they wer facing and to the flank of the beastherd fighting the thunderers. A trap perhaps, I wasn't sure. But I had to take the bait or lose the herd.

In combat my 3 furies kill 2 bolt thrower crew and he does nothing back. Again, outnumber by 1, he auto-breaks rolling a 3 for insane courage and off the board they go. My furies took out all 3 warmachines on their own, winning each combat by 1 and outnumbering them by 1.

The beast herd killed 2 thunderers this time and took a wound as well. But winning by 4, He needs a 5 to stay. He rolls a '10', but with the recently rallied BSB nearby, he rolls the 5 and stays to fight another round.

Here is the battlefield after turn 3.

This ends part 2 of the battle report.
The exciting finish coming soon.

Ouch, sounds like a brutal fun battle.

I was able to field my wife's dwarves against a cheesy Teclis army and found out that dwarves without cannons tend to be dead dwarves...

Not sure why my opponent didn't take cannons for this battle. He said he was trying some different things.

But against any army that runs chariots, multi-wound creatures, etc.. cannons are usually great.

But while I have his warmachines, he still has his 4 main blocks and his thunderers at the end of turn 3.

He's definately still in a decent position, lots of rough dwarf muscle to put in rat faces. I pointed this post out to my wife over lunch and she commented that she hopes the dwarves win because skaven and BOC are "icky"

Of course, I tend to think Dwarves are a little lacking in hygine as well....

Hahaha, well let her know I wash my miniatures thoroughly between battles. ;-)

I hope you enjoy the rest of the battle.
