Tactic of the Week

Continuing from last weeks discussion on drawing a frenzy unit into the woods as a delaying tactic.

This week we are going to discuss how to seperate a Frenzied character from his frenzied unit.
Sometimes I find that dealing with a frenzied unit isn't that difficult and dealing with the frenzied character isn't bad. But many times, the combination of the 2 is more than I want to deal with.

And it is always better to get points for what you can, when you can.

In the diagram below, we have the frenzied dark red unit with the bright red character in the unit.

In the woods I have moved a small cheap unit of skirmishers. For Skaven I like the throw away unit of night runners.

On my opponents turn, the full unit cannot make the wheel and get through the woods to the skirmishers, but the lone character can.
If on foot, then the woods will be no deterent to him, and even if on horseback, he doesn't have the wheel restrictions like the unit must make.

So if you set this up correctly, you don't even need woods to pull this off. And if the character has a faster speed than the unit, say the Daemonic Hero with move 6 in a unit of bloodletters with move 4, it is even easier.

In this diagram you can now see the waiting unit behind the woods.

Finally, in the last shot, you can see that the character has easily dispatched the 25-40 point throw away unit of night runners and was forced to overrun directly in front of the large unit that will auto-win combat when they charge.

We have now successfully completed the initial plan of seperating the character from the unit. And now both can be dealt with independently and with greater chance of success.

Good luck and happy hunting.
